
If you are going to be a writer who writes about death, I only ask that you honor the fullness of loss and the space left by loss. On October 18th, as the rains persisted but weakened, Scarface released his third album, The Diary, into a world where no one in his home city could safely get to the store and hold it in their hands. It’s the difference between someone might not survive this and there are people to be buried now. There is ruin, and a cloud of silence-more about a confirmation of what has happened than a signaling of what is coming.

The calm after the storm is the one that is eerie. To talk about the calm which comes after a turbulent moment makes for a less romantic cliche. In 2021, Scarface and Willie D started the Geto Boys: Reloaded podcast.For anyone who has been through a vicious cycle of weather, it is known that there is a calm directly after the storm, too. He also is a published author, releasing his memoir Diary of a Madman in 2015. In 2001, Scarface was named Lyricist of the Year at The Source Awards and he was honored with the I Am Hip Hop lifetime achievement award at the BET Hip Hop Awards in 2015. In 2000, he was named president of Def Jam South, and one of his first signings was Ludacris. Scarface went on to release several critically acclaimed albums, including The Diary (1994), The Untouchable (1997), My Homies (1998), and The Fix (2002), which received a rating of 5 Mics from The Source magazine. Scarface is Back, which achieved gold status.

In 1991, the Geto Boys released their biggest single “Mind Playing Tricks On Me” and Scarface released his debut solo album Mr. Hailing from the South Acres neighborhood of Houston, Texas, Scarface entered the rap game as DJ Akshun before he joined the rap group Geto Boys on Rap-A-Lot Records for the group’s 1989 sophomore album Grip It! On That Other Level. Brad Terrence Jordan is better known as the legendary rapper/producer Scarface.
